Hard coal coke is the final product of hard coal production and is widely used in ironmaking, foundry, chemical and ferroalloy industries. It is the most energy-efficient form of hard coal.

The coke plant in Temirtau uses an innovative technology which involves thermal oxidative bed coking of coal charge in retort furnaces. Furnaces of this type and design have not been used in this process until now.

Twelve 50-cubic metre retort furnaces were custom-built for this production facility. The total capacity is 24,000 tonnes per year. The building itself, where the process will take place, has been reconstructed for optimum installation of the equipment.

A challenge in terms of the process design solutions was to retain all the principles of the proposed innovative technology, while considering all the regulatory requirements of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Industrial development has always been and will always be ahead of the regulatory requirements. The engineer's task is to steer new technology ideas through the eye of the regulations' needle unchanged.

Another challenge was to integrate the technology into the building under reconstruction. When designing the installation, we took into account general ergonomics, automated processes, and ensured the comfort and safety of the employees in each area of production.

We also applied unconventional solutions for general production safety, explosion and fire safety, protection of the employees from dust. Today, the plant is fully operational.
